Article Summary: Singer Caroline Brooks talks new single and fashion in a Runway Magazine interview discussing her music, personal style, and the creative vision driving her artistic journey.

Congratulations on the new video & single! How exciting! We love the whole Bonnie & Clyde theme of the video. Why did you release Tomorrow, Tonight as your first single?

Thank you! I’m very excited. Out of all my new songs, I think this one will connect to the most people. It’s such a fun song to play live and I hope the same energy translates digitally. When I performed it onstage for the first time, my Facebook and Twitter inboxes started blowing up with fans saying that the chorus was still stuck in their head and they wanted to find out where they could buy it. I love it when your song hits a nerve in a good way.

Your sound has been compared to artists such as One Republic and Sara Bareilles, how would you describe your style? Anyone you’d compare your fashion sense to?

I’m a big fan of the vintage / classic pin-up look. I guess I would compare my style to Zooey Deschanel or a more subtle version of Katy Perry. I try to keep it timeless and feminine with a little edge.

As a musician, you are always traveling and on the road, what do you consider your beauty and fashion must-haves?

My beauty must-haves would have to be Laura Mercier’s liquid foundation, Tarte’s “Lights, Camera, Lashes!” mascara, and a good pink lip gloss (I usually prefer Lancôme). For fashion must-haves, I’d have to say a good pair of skinny jeans, vintage lace-up ankle boots, and a fitted dress that gives you an hour-glass figure. I’m all about versatility when it comes to fashion.

If you could only have one product on your tour bus, what would it be?

If I could only have one beauty product, it would have to be Tarte’s “Lights, Camera, Lashes!” mascara. That stuff is like Miracle-Grow for your eyelashes and makes all the difference.

Who are some of your favorite designers and why?

Fashion designers I like or fashion designers I can afford? I’m a big thrift shop & vintage junkie, but I’ve always loved the styles of Ralph Lauren, Dolce and Gabbana, and Chanel. I’m especially a big fan of Ralph Lauren dresses. Their fit is feminine and sexy in a classy and almost subtle way. Overall, the color palette and style of these designers are chic and not too flamboyant for me.

You seem to have a very busy schedule, with SXSW, some tour dates, and a release party and show within the last month. What is next for you?

After my single and music video release, I’ll be finishing up my EP to be released this summer. The single is a taste of what my new EP will sound like. My song “Parachute” that was featured in the trailer for Kate Hudson’s film “A Little Bit of Heaven” will be included. My next music video will probably be for that song.

I’m excited to be releasing more videos with the same cinematic style as the one for “Tomorrow, Tonight.” I’m a big advocate of using a strong, visual narrative to make the song more powerful. In the meantime, I’ll also be playing shows all over the west coast to promote it. More dates for those shows will be announced soon. Can’t wait!
