Mulberry is putting a collection on a runway for the first time in six years. The British house shows “Mulberry by Christopher Kane” on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. on the official London Fashion Week schedule. It is the first collection from Kane since he closed his own label in 2023, and the Mulberry Christopher Kane debut arrives with the brand’s ready-to-wear ambitions attached to it.
Christopher Kane presents his debut Mulberry collection on Sept. 20, 2026, at 3 p.m. during London Fashion Week, the house’s first runway show in six years. The Spring/Summer 2027 collection reaches stores and mulberry.com in January 2027.
Who Is Christopher Kane and Why Did Mulberry Hire Him?
Kane is a Central Saint Martins graduate who won the Vogue Fashion Fund and four British Fashion Awards, including Womenswear Designer of the Year. His label held a fixture slot on the London schedule for well over a decade and sat inside Kering between 2013 and 2018.
He closed that label in 2023. Since then his only significant public work came through Self-Portrait’s residency programme in 2024, where he reworked ideas from his own graduate collection. His sister and longtime business partner, Tammy Kane, helped him reacquire the label’s trademarks after the closure, and Drapers has reported she will work with him again at Mulberry.
Mulberry named him creative director of women’s ready-to-wear in March. Chief executive Andrea Baldo described the appointment as opening a new chapter for the category, citing Kane’s combination of creativity, intellectual rigour and instinctive playfulness alongside a respect for craft.
Kane said the house’s British heritage and commitment to craft made the role an honour, and that he looked forward to building a new ready-to-wear chapter.
The Strategy Behind the Show
The appointment sits inside a plan Mulberry calls “Back to the Mulberry Spirit.” The brand exited ready-to-wear in 2020 during pandemic-era cutbacks and has since been known almost entirely for leather goods.
The economics of a September show with January delivery are worth noting. A four-month gap between runway and retail means this collection is not built for immediate sell-through. It is built to re-establish that Mulberry designs clothes at all.
When Is the Mulberry Show at London Fashion Week 2026?
The show runs Sunday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. London Fashion Week itself runs Sept. 17 through 21, presenting Spring/Summer 2027 collections.
Mulberry is not the only returning name on that date. Alexander McQueen also shows Sept. 20, marking Seán McGirr’s London debut for the house and McQueen’s first London show in 25 years, after years of presenting in Paris.
Both returns came out of a push by British Fashion Council chief executive Laura Weir to bring heritage British brands back onto the schedule. Weir has said restoring iconic houses to the London calendar was among her earliest ambitions in the job, and that Mulberry’s return strengthens the week creatively, culturally and commercially.
Erdem, Roksanda, Simone Rocha and Burberry are also confirmed for the season.
What Should You Expect From the Collection?
Kane has not previewed the collection, and Mulberry has released no imagery.
His own label offered a specific vocabulary: material experimentation, an interest in the uncomfortable edges of glamour, and prints and treatments that read as ideas before they read as clothes. Whether that transfers intact onto a heritage leather-goods house is the open question of the show.
The commercial test is different from the creative one. Mulberry needs ready-to-wear that gives its handbags a context, not a collection that competes with them.
