Greta Gerwig’s Narnia trailer opens with a world coming into being, accompanied by Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven. Netflix released the first look on October 13. Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew reaches theaters on February 12, 2027, with IMAX previews beginning February 10 and its Netflix release following on April 2.

The Narnia trailer begins before the wardrobe

The film adapts The Magician’s Nephew, the C. S. Lewis novel that explains how Narnia began. That choice gives Gerwig a different starting point from another introduction through a wardrobe. Creation becomes the dramatic problem. The audience must meet a place as it forms, rather than arrive after its rules already exist.

Two children anchor the adventure. David McKenna plays Digory Kirke, and Beatrice Campbell plays Polly Plummer. Their friendship gives the scale a human reference. A vast fantasy world can overwhelm its protagonists if every scene exists to display another creature or location. Beginning with children makes their responses part of the spectacle.

Netflix’s official film announcement confirms the cast and release dates. The new trailer provides an introduction, rather than enough evidence for a verdict on the finished film. A convincing image of wonder still needs characters who make that wonder consequential.

Led Zeppelin gives the Narnia trailer another identity

Stairway to Heaven brings an unusually strong identity to a film trailer. The song already suggests an expanding journey. Using it gives the preview a musical shape that audiences may recognize before they understand the images. It also creates a demanding comparison: the finished sequence must justify music with that much cultural weight.

At the New York preview, Gerwig discussed obtaining permission from Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Rotten Tomatoes reports that the two musicians connected with the project’s story. Their approval is a specific part of the trailer news. It does not establish that the song will appear in the completed movie.

Trailer music and an original score perform different jobs. Netflix credits Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt with the original score. George Drakoulias serves as music supervisor. Those credits identify the people shaping the film’s musical world beyond this first promotional glimpse.

An ensemble around the children

Daniel Craig plays Andrew Ketterley, Digory’s uncle. Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan and Ciarán Hinds also appear in the ensemble. Meryl Streep voices Aslan, the lion at the center of Narnia’s creation.

A familiar adult cast can help sell an unfamiliar entry point. The more interesting question is how much room the film gives its newcomers. Their characters need to guide the audience through discoveries that established readers already know. Casting recognition cannot do that work for them.

The Rotten Tomatoes preview report describes Gerwig’s discussion with Stephen Colbert about the children’s screen test. She emphasized the connection between the young performers. That is a useful detail because the relationship supplies the story’s emotional scale before the fantasy expands around it.

Craft behind the first look

Jacqueline Durran designs the costumes, while James Chinlund handles production design. Seamus McGarvey serves as director of photography. These credits matter in a film whose first task is making several kinds of reality feel connected.

Costume can establish a character’s everyday world before effects alter the surroundings. A sleeve, collar or worn surface gives a viewer something recognizable to hold onto. Production design then determines how that ordinary texture meets the fantastic. Neither department needs constant visual excess to make the contrast legible.

Gerwig discussed practical sets and real plants at the preview, according to Rotten Tomatoes. That approach offers physical reference points for the performers. It also puts a useful responsibility on the images: elaborate effects should extend the environment rather than erase its material character.

RUNWAY’s Entertainment coverage follows the connection between screen storytelling and the people who construct it. Here, the credited work deserves attention alongside the names appearing on the poster.

Theater and streaming dates are separate

The Narnia trailer also leaves room to examine how the film joins handmade environments to creature effects. Netflix credits Neal Scanlan as creature effects creative supervisor, with Michael Eames as animation supervisor. Those departments handle different parts of the screen illusion. Their work needs to share the same apparent world, especially when a child reacts to something the audience sees in another layer of the image. The Narnia trailer raises that question without resolving it.

The February 12 theatrical release comes before the April 2 streaming release. IMAX audiences have an earlier preview window beginning February 10. Readers planning to watch at home should use the April date rather than assume the theatrical opening includes immediate streaming access.

Netflix will handle domestic distribution. Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the film outside North America, according to Netflix’s announcement. Local listings will determine individual showtimes and booking availability. The dates establish the release sequence, not a guarantee that every cinema will carry every format.

The preview makes an ambitious promise, but the film’s strongest test will be smaller: whether Digory and Polly remain convincing companions through it. For RUNWAY Magazine, that relationship is the detail to watch when the finished film arrives. A new world needs someone worth following into it.
