Shadow Play: Find Your Perfect Winter Shade

Dark Skin:For ethnic skin tones, select soft rosy cheek colors, sultry cat-eyes, and deep plum-berry lip stains with lots of gloss. Darker skin requires more pigment to be visible, so rich lip hues help accentuate the mouth and jaw while keeping up the minimalist look. Avoid true reds as they will clash with your skin tone and look unnatural. For a bit more pop, a honey-brown hue or slight dab of creamy gold eye shadow will bring out your eyes. Especially during the winter months, avoid any unnatural hues when it comes to eye shadows such as blue, green, or purple, or eye enhancers like glitter or shimmer, as they are best reserved for the summer months.

Tan Skin:Those with tan skin can get away with much more color on all of their features, but also have to be extra cautious to properly balance their colors and features well. For dark eyes, gold tones and soft, earthy browns underneath a thick coat of mascara can do wonders, and light eyes are complemented well by dark, smoky browns. Bronze-skinned beauties will benefit from a matte mauve lip stain and very little to no blush. Because dark colors can quickly overpower your face, it is best to choose only one feature to play up while keeping the others muted.

Light Skin:Being light-skinned can be advantageous in the ability to wear a wider spectrum of makeup looks, but its downsides can be far and wide in the realm of being publicly wearable. When it comes to finding the right shade, many factors come into play, such as eye and hair color, face shape, and complexion, so more diligence is required when seeking out what’s best for you. A sleek, classic cat eye is always a go-to look for the eyes, but for the more adventurous at heart, try a cascading black and brown shadow with liquid liner on top. When it comes to cheek play, the soft lighting of the winter sun pulls out all the detail in your face, so it is best to go with a soft, red blush with warm undertones to pull out the color and keep your face from being washed out. Polish off the look with a rosy pink lip shimmer or cherry red gloss.

Fair Skin:Ladies with moonlit skin should be wary of deep colors as they can easily overtake your face, and not enough color can leave you looking washed out. Choose hues that are subtly vibrant but not too dark, just to ensure you’re not inadvertently making yourself look older than you really are. Just a little bit of color goes a long way and you want to be sure you are balancing your makeup properly. The best combinations for pale-skinned pretties are nude cream shadows, soft pink cheeks, and light, sheer lipstick or lip balm for just a touch of color. You may buy into the deep berry lips trend without going overboard by keeping the rest of your face a neutral color palette.

Hottest Celebrity Makeup Looks: Winter 2014

In make-up, trends for winter 2014 are seeing a drastic shift from the dewy finishes and rich hues of summer and pre-fall. Muted lips are popular now. Where we saw deep berry hues last year, we are seeing soft nudes. To avoid the look of the undead, choose a nude lipstick two to three shades darker than your natural skin tone and brush a light gloss over top to reflect light. Although the trend is to downplay the lip, you don’t want them disappearing entirely. Star favorites include Lea Michele’s top pick in Clarins Rouge Prodige Lipstick in Nude, while JLO’s always-perfect pout prefers Clinique’s Long Last Glosswear in Knockout Nude. Another popular hue that we saw plenty of during Fashion Week was ballerina pink. If you aren’t a fan of the nude lip, or have a smaller pout that you would like to accentuate, try a light pink that best compliments your skin tone. A couple of favorites include Dolce & Gabbana’s Cool Classic Pink or Dior Addict Lipstick in Sheer Bubblegum Pink. The downplay of the lip brings us to winter’s highlighted feature, the eyes. Played up eyes are making this seasons make-up looks fun and extremely versatile. From thick, rich mascaras (try Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara) to metallic creamy lids that pop with color, the look is smoky, bold and sexy. This season when smoking the eyes, line the bottom lid and finish with eye shadow below as well. The look is more dramatic and opens up the eye. Make-up artists this season aren’t just using black this year either, the trend of smoking eyes with rich browns and greys are becoming increasingly popular. Try Bobbi Brown’s Dark Ash Brown or Dark Grey to play with different color options. Ballerina pink isn’t just for the lips; the confectionary color is also showing up on eyelids. Balance is always key when using bright colors on the eyes. Keep the lips simple, this is where a light nude gloss would work to compliment and balance the more festive eye. Light brows are also a big trend, and though this look doesn’t work for every occasion, or everyone, it is a fun look to experiment with. To do so you will want to find a brow pencil that is a couple of shades lighter than your natural hair color, shape your brows and then fill in completely. For a more subtle look, opt for a light eye shadow. Remember in winter to keep the face matte with just a hint of highlight. Winter weather tends to dry our skin, so opt for a good moisturizer in favor of your dewy foundations, save those for spring. A complimentary blush is always a welcomed addition, unless the winter chill naturally gives you the coveted rosy pink cheeks, the skip the blush and go natural. For hair, this season is all about ease of style and no-fuss cuts. With all of our holiday shopping, work parties and social engagements, we women like to look and feel great without having to take hours, or paying a professional, to do so. It is more about how to simply style your chosen cut. If you opt for the newly revived bob trend, like the adorable Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting or the always-trendy Jennifer Lawrence, a little styling product goes a long way to give it personality. Opting for a side part can make the cut feel modern and sophisticated. Side parts are popular for all lengths, as are sweeping fringe bangs. Wearing your bangs long and swept to one side is an elegant look, as are the more voluminous bun styles that are a red carpet favorite now. To change up your look, opt for an occasional fishtail braid, a favorite of Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland. Not your average kiddie braid, the fishtail style is refined and grown-up. A glossy ponytail, high or low, is a look that can be worn casually or for cocktail hour. Jennifer Lopez is the queen of making this look effortless and chic. The beauty of the season lies in the simplicity of this years trends. A little goes a long way if you utilize the right products and respect what styles will and won’t work for you. Natural beauty is a foundation in which artists build upon, and this winter, the foundation is getting a chance to shine.

Winter Tips For Skin

Winter Tips For Skin

Wonderful Winter Skin Step 1: Swap your harsh, oil-controlling cleansers for a milder formula. One like Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is ideal because it is mild and soothes skin while it washes. Swap out your soap or body wash as well; you’ll want to pick one that is rich in vitamins to promote healthy, moisturized skin over the course of the winter season.

Wonderful Winter Skin Step 2: Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. We often forget this step no matter what the season. Dead skin cells that are not exfoliated away sit on top of our skin and don’t allow proper absorption of skincare products. Skip rough, abrasive scrubs and exfoliators and stick with one like ExfoliKate Gentle, which uses micro beads and natural fruit enzymes to gently exfoliate dead skin cells away. You can also use a soft washcloth, using it to rub your cleanser in circular motions while in the shower.

Wonderful Winter Skin Step 3: Drink away….water that is. Skip the soda, say no thank you to the second cocktail and instead, replace it with more water. Drinking water is key to keep your body hydrated from the inside out. We naturally drink less water in the winter, which causes our skin to be dehydrated. So, even when you are not thirsty, drink up. Still having trouble taking in the recommended amount of water per day? Try a cup of hot water with a squeeze of lemon or lime. You will get the benefits of hydration while warming up at the same time.

Wonderful Winter Skin Step 4: Slather on a rich moisturizer. The ideal winter moisturizer is slightly heavier than your summertime version. One we like is the Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C Night Cream, which helps to not only hydrate skin while you sleep but brighten it too. Your body moisturizer (yes, you should be using one daily) should also be amped up for winter. Slather it on after you step out of the shower while your skin is still damp to lock in all that moisture.

Wonderful Winter Skin Step 5: The struggle of chapped lips is real and becomes oh-so-apparent during winter when our pout is exposed to all the elements while our body gets covered up in cozy sweaters and boots. Use a balm or ointment, rather than a chap stick, on lips regularly to keep them moist and protected from dry winter air. Avoid licking your lips at all costs, it causes dehydration which also equals dry, chapped lips.

Wonderful Winter Skin Step 6: The sun isn’t shining but that doesn’t mean you don’t need sunscreen. A leader in the skincare industry, The International Dermal Institute suggests wearing a sunscreen year-round. Worried about breakouts? IDI suggests purchasing a non-comedogenic (this means it won’t clog your pores) sunscreen. They also recommend getting a double-duty sunscreen product, like ones that are incorporated into your daily moisturizer. Then you can skip the extra step required to put on sun block.

Wonderful Winter Skin Step7: Remember that your scalp is skin too. Our scalps are often forgotten about when taking care of our skin, but scalp issues rank high in winter skin complaints. Dry, itchy scalp and dandruff are two common issues in the winter. Hit them head on with an ultra moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and then use a product specifically designed for the scalp. Hair care experts at the award-winning Carol Carey Couture Salon in California, recommend Kerastase Initialiste, a skincare-inspired serum specifically for the scalp.

Wonderful Winter Skin Step 8: When in doubt, check with an expert. If your skin doesn’t seem to be responding to winter well and you develop excessively dry or cracked skin, a visit to your esthetician or dermatologist may be in order. One of these skin care specialists can help direct you towards the perfect product regimen for your skin this season.

Blast From The Past Fashion From The People's Choice Awards

The first People’s Choice Awards aired in 1975, so of course, there are some fashionable looks from the era we just might not understand, and don’t even get us started on the ‘80s and ‘90s! From feathered hair to flipped-up bangs, hair has definitely evolved over the years, but more importantly, so have men’s suits!

The guys used to be stuck in boring black and white penguin suits with no pizazz. Now, hot young Hollywood studs like Zac Efron and Kellan Lutz make it cool for guys to dress up and play with color.

As for the ladies, they’ve definitely taken on a flirty and fierce edge. Nowadays, the girls can wear long gowns with plunging necklines or mini-dresses with high-necklines and anything in between. One thing that hasn’t changed is a random starlet proving that a lady can wear the pants at an awards shows too!

Dating back to the ‘70s with Carol Burnett and Candice Bergen to the ‘90s style of Paula Abdul and today with Ellen DeGeneres, the pantsuit is never going away, proving women are in control of their own personal style more than ever!

Take a look back with us on some of the best, and weirdest fashion in People’s Choice Awards show history.

White never seems to go out of style on the PCA red carpet!
(Left to Right: Suzanne Somers with her husband, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus with then fiancé Liam Hemsworth)

In the early days of the PCAs, it was generally a black-tie affair for the gentlemen. Nowadays, the guys get to have fun with their style, too!
(Left to Right: Zac Efron, Kellan Lutz, the late, great Robin Williams)

Awards shows are a chance to accessorize with a new crystal statue or a fellow star!
(Left to Right: Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock; Drew Barrymore and Mr. T)

The PCAs are all about having a good time! This is an awards show voted on by the fans, not any kind of academy like the Oscars, Grammys or the Emmys. Fashion is a bit more fun and flirty.
(Left to Right: Demi Lovato, Jessica Simpson, Julianne Hough, Kaley Cuoco)

While we did say the PCAs are more carefree than some other award shows, mistakes still happen, like bad tans to match not-so-great dresses and wrapping yourself up like a Christmas present! We still love Ashley Tisdale and Hayley Williams anyway!

Fashion Flashback: A Look At 2014

Shimmer, Sheer and Lots of Leg!

2014 definitely had its jaw-dropping fashion moments. Rihanna shocked at the CFDAs in a see-through Swarovski crystal embellished gown. Talk about pushing the envelope! Fashion designer and reality star, Kendall Jenner received some guffaws for her hip-high double slit dress at the Much Music Awards. We just hope that red carpet wasn’t a windy one!

School Girl Chic: Plaids, Crop Tops & Thigh-Highs

The Catholic school girl look has always been a recurring favorite. Popular in the ‘90s and made iconic by Alicia Silverstone in “Clueless” and Britney Spears in the “Baby, One More Time” video, 2014 saw a rejuvenation of the trend! Miu Miu (left) and Tory Burch (right) highlighted this look in their 2014 ready-to-wear collections.

Sparkle & Shine!

Sparkles weren’t just saved for New Year’s Eve in 2014! From dresses to pant suits, sparkles, sequins, and bling were prominent even in the tiniest of details and accessories. Jennifer Lopez brought Atelier Versace’s edgy mod spacey look from the runway to the stage! Only J. Lo can pull off some looks…

Pretty in Pink!

In a year full of tight, revealing and sexy looks, designers peppered in ‘80s reminiscent shades of pink usually paired with lace and ruffles to bring some innocence back. Oscar de la Renta (left) and Betsey Johnson (right) both included retro throwback pink ensembles in their spring lines.

Embrace Your Body!

If there is one thing we learned from 2014, it’s that we should embrace what we have! From big booties to long legs, this year was about enhancing your assets with your own personal style. Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian embraced their hourglass figures with curve-hugging dresses. Tall, leggy and lean Taylor Swift played up her sexiness with crop tops, short shorts, and high slits while the petite Ariana Grande showed off her toned legs in flirty short dresses.

Z LaLa Interview with Runway

What has been your most personal song?

“War In My Head,” from my first album Zilosophy. The lyrics were dedi- cated to a close friend of mine who had a serious addiction to drugs.

What inspires you when you’re creating music?

Feelings, experiences, my environment, and people or things that I may be close to or around at that moment. Just like the way Bee- thoven dedicated “Fur Elise” to Therese Malfatti, or Tchaikovsky’s concerto based on the River Moldau.

What was the motivation behind creating the stage name Z LaLa?

It came to me in a dream. Three aliens were making sounds. One said “Z!” The other murmured “LA” and the third fol- lowed…”LA.” Henceforth, Z LaLa.

Your song “Flyaway” was released in 14 different languages. What sparked you to do so?

I wanted to reach out to a world audience and bridge the language gap between different cultures and peo- ple of different ethnicities. Furthermore, I wanted to be able to connect to everybody through my music.

I also wanted to break the world record for sing- ing/recording a single song in 14 different lan- guages, which has not been done before.

What influences your designs in fabulous, unique clothes, like the amazing outfit you wore to the Billboard Music Awards?
There is no particular influence other than my mere love for extreme and over the top art and fashion. Once I see something so out of the ordinary, I gravitate toward it. I have a deep love for the crazy and weird things in life.

What goals do you have for your career?

To perform all around the globe and sing my songs in the language of each of the individual countries that I visit.

If you could choose any venue or audience, is there an event you have not yet done that you would love to do?

Yes, the Super Bowl!

If you could work with any art- ist on an album, who would you like to do a song with?

Daft Punk and/or Pharell Williams

Who have been your biggest influences in your music career and in your life?

My family, my man- ager, Grace Jones, Kate Bush, The Police (the group), and Bruno Mars.

What can we look forward to seeing from you in the future?

My electro band, which will have the craziest instru- ments you’ve ever seen, and my up-and-coming single and music video.

Press Play During Playtime

Kelly Rowland “Motivation”

If you are looking for a song to start things off, look no further. Kelly Rowland’s “Motivation” is a slow jam with a good rhythm. Turn on this song, and your man will have all the motivation he needs to take things a step further.

Baby Bash “Suga Suga”

Some songs just never lose their appeal. Let him know he’s got you lifted. “Suga Suga” is one of those throwbacks that sets the stage for a fun night and makes you feel like one of those ultra-sexy music video vixens.

Beyoncé “Drunk in Love”

Any playtime list would be incomplete without Beyoncé. This R&B/ Hip-Hop hit has a slower rhythm with plenty of bass and sexy lyrics. Beyoncé’s “Drunk in Love” is definitely one of the best current songs for the bedroom or for setting the mood over a glass of wine. It keeps a good pace but won’t have you rushing through anything.

Justin Timberlake “That Girl”

A sexy love song à la Justin Timberlake? Yes, please. “That Girl” is lyrically heart melting and the pace changes consistently throughout the song to keep things fresh. It is a slow jam and a catchy pop tune rolled into one!

Nine Inch Nails “Closer”

If you need something darker in your playtime playlist, this Nine Inch Nails hit is sexual and even a little disturbing. In fact, it is surprising that lyrics this dirty ever made it onto the radio at all. If your beau is into rock, this can really intensify your night.

The Weeknd “Wicked Games”

It might not be the most fitting song for a relationship, but to get a hot and heavy night started, it definitely serves the purpose. Plus, isn’t there something strangely romantic about the “only for one night” idea?

Rihanna “Rude Boy”

There are few things in this world sexier than Rihanna. “Rude Boy” is a sexual and upbeat pop song that will give you plenty of lust and energy. Then again, that Barbadian voice could probably sing anything and make it the sexiest song you have ever heard. If in doubt, just play Rihanna.

Jeremih “Birthday Sex”

Of course this quintessential modern-day sex song has a place on your playlist. It doesn’t even have to be your birthday for this song to set the mood. But, if you do happen to planning a birthday celebration, it’s even better.

Drake “Best I Ever Had”

What playtime list would be complete without a little Drake? We all know his smooth voice and this catchy tune is sure to lead things in the right direction, and if you really are with the best you have ever had, what better way to let them know?

Katy Perry “Dark Horse”

This is one to keep around for speeding things up. Smooth contemporary R&B songs are a given, but a good dance track keeps things interesting. It is also the perfect song to make you feel supernaturally sexy. Of course you are the focus of his attention, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded.

Beyonce “XO”

Beyonce’s “XO” is a less overtly sexual song than many on this list, but it definitely earns the spot. A sweet slow song takes you back to the days of simple, innocent dating. Sure, you want your beau to know that the lust is there, but focusing on the love isn’t going to slow things down.

Portishead “Glory Box”

The song is best known for the line, “Give me a reason to love you.” That’s a pretty sexy starting point. The jazzy instrumentals will have you feeling like a vintage bombshell, and we all know that confidence is really the key to great sex

Ellie Goulding “Burn”

This song is a soft and sweet poppy addition. It has a quicker tempo than most of the other songs on the list, so it’s good for switching things up. Plus, who doesn’t love Ellie Goulding? That sweet voice will serenade you right into the bedroom.

Usher “Seduction”

The title says it all, doesn’t it? A song about seduction in addition to Usher’s voice equals the ultimate playtime music. Smooth and sexy, this song will have your S.O. sweeping you off your feet and into the bedroom. Even if you haven’t mastered the art of seduction, just playing this track will get you halfway there.

Rihanna “Skin”

This sensual song has a good beat but keeps things nice and slow. Of course, all this talk about skin could progress your night a bit faster than the tempo. A great addition to your playtime playlist, this song belongs at the beginning, complete with a striptease.

Crazy For Lingerie

Since the first time a bra strap slipped down the bare shoulder of a woman or a flash of lace was spotted under layers of clothing, men have been obsessed with the idea of what women are wearing under their clothes. They have fantasized endlessly about their women showing up unannounced in sassy vixen getups or acting like the innocent girl next door in a baby doll negligee. It is quite possible the intrigue lies in the idea that it is something you are wearing for them and them alone, something that no one else will see. Or it could be the fact that it is like the wrapping on a present and they can’t wait to see what’s under it. Either way, if you ever want to drive your man crazy or just want to feel a little bit more va-va-voom, try playing with lingerie to spice up your sex life or your look.

Lace, much like the little black dress at a cocktail party, is a timeless classic. It is ultra-feminine, perfect for camouflaging problem areas and can be worn in various styles. From matching lace bra and panty sets to a full lace bodice that leaves all of the best parts slightly exposed, both options can tenderly tease your lover. In that same ageless category are the thigh-high garters or stockings. Pair them with bras and panties, a teddy or nothing at all if you are feeling brave, to create instant hotness and desirability.

If you are indeed feeling bold and daring, try a leather piece. Many designers right now are playing with different designs and peeka-boo cuts showing skin in all the right places. Don’t shy away from things like lace-up bodices, boots, gloves or corsets – it’s fun to make your guy work for the prize and it gives you a chance to channel your inner Xena, taking charge of your sexiness. There is just something about that feeling of leather that makes you feel like you can handle anything, anywhere, anytime. Plus, the time it takes to actually untie that corset or get out of those boots builds up the sexual tension.

If the whole dominatrix, leather and lace thing isn’t your vibe, and you are normally just a cotton underwear-wearing type, try boosting your collection with some bright and sassy colors like hot pink, lime green or zesty orange. You will catch his eye for sure and look good enough to eat. An investment in a good push up bra is always a nice enhancement as well. All of us ladies can use a good boost every now and again, so find a color that looks great on your skin-tone. This is an especially fun option if you two are traveling to a tropical destination or taking a weekend getaway.

Baby dolls are also a traditional, more conservative option. Many times women feel more at ease due to the looser fit and it offers more of a breezy, whimsical sexiness than some of the other more obvious choices. With a wide selection of patterns, textures, colors and mix and match options available, it is easy to find something that compliments your body and mood. Subtle, soft sex appeal is not lost on men and will definitely have them treating you like the angel you will appear to be. A woman’s wedding day is always the perfect occasion to wear lingerie. Some phenomenal bridal designers out there specialize in pieces specifically for this magical time.

Journelle and Claire Pettibone design couture and luxury lingerie, while others do custom designs to make sure your piece fits your body perfectly. Classic white or anything in pearl tones is always a beautiful choice. Whether you actually waited until the night of your wedding or not, it will be a symbolic and memorable experience for both of you that you will remember for the rest of your days of wedded bliss. He will also appreciate the extra effort.

In addition to romantic milestones such as your wedding day, your honey’s birthday, and of course, Valentine’s Day, don’t forget that sometimes the best things come as a surprise. Choose a random Tuesday night, show up at his doorstep in a super seductive get up, and you will not only make his night, but probably the rest of his month. Plus, it is a great way to give yourself a dose of confidence if you are feeling undesirable. No one can feel unattractive in a black lace bra, no one. If you have some money to burn, check out the designer boutique Faire Frou Frou, which in French means, “to show off”. Other good options include, Pleasuremants, specializing in erotic fantasies, British label Agent Provocateur, and Bordelle, seen in many fashion magazines and on many top celebs like Lady Gaga.

If you are in a hurry and just want to dash into your local mall, Victoria’s Secret has been a go-to for years, serving up sexy selections at reasonable prices. There is simply no excuse not to look and feel sexy in lingerie every day!

Open Relationships: Is It The Right Thing For You?

What defines an open relationship in modern times? That’s actually a more complicated question than most would think. There are many different types of open relationships—from swingers (committed partners who engage in sexual activities recreationally or socially), to hybrid relationships (one partner is monogamous and the other is not), and multi-partner (3 or more relationships that may or may not be involved with the others).

We live in a society filled with judgment and criticism for decisions we make in our lives. Maybe you’ve contemplated an open relationship before, but are unsure of what it entails, how it will affect you and your partner, or what your friends and family will think. Some couples have opened their minds to such relationships for reasons that can be damaging to themselves and/or their partner.

Many men (and plenty of women) want to have their cake and eat it too; thinking it would be amazing to have all the sex they want, with as many different women (or men) as possible. Many of these people, though, want to explore other lovers, but can’t handle their partner with someone else. Jealousy, insecurity, and neglect can be negative side effects from polyamory (meaning “many loves”, a broader term than polygamy, which more often refers to multiple marriages). However, there are many people, including counselors, life coaches, and celebrities championing for these types of relationships. Miami rapper, Pitbull gloats about his open relationship, while people, like Robyn Trask, the director of the polyamory not-for-profit organization, LoveMore.com, have turned their lifestyles into work.

Author Dan Savage, who calls his marriage to his husband “monogamish” (predominantly monogamous, but without restrictions), raves about his and other happy, freeing relationships.Skeptics call polyamorists immoral, sexaholics, and liars. There is no possible way an open relationship won’t end in disaster, they say. Leon Feingold from OpenLoveNY.com says his open relationships are non-competitive, and are all about making yourself, and your partners, happy. Robyn Trask (LoveMore.com) says being open has made her self-aware, less jealous and more communicative in her three relationships.

Now that we’ve established the history and existence of successful open relationships, how do you know if it’s the right road for you? This is a very personal decision that should be discussed honestly and in detail with your partner. There are many reasons an open relationship might be an option for you. As many felt during the free love movement that dates back to the 19th century, and boomed in the 1960s, a committed relationship can feel suffocating and like slavery to some. Traditional marriages are generally based on being with one person for the rest of your life, regardless of desire and need. For many people, monogamy is unattainable. Statistics show fifty percent of marriages end in divorce, mostly due to infidelity, which gives polyamorists just cause for their lifestyle choice.

When you consider how people vary, and how much a person can change over time, it can be frustrating as a couple to grow together, and hope your wants and needs stay in sync with one another. Open relationships allow couples to explore companionship, intellectual and sexual variety, without expecting their partner to change or forcing them to stay the same. By the way, yes, I did say intellectual variety. For most open relationships, it isn’t just about sex; it’s about connecting with other individuals and having the freedom to do so.

If you and your partner agree you would like to try an open relationship, there are some lengthy discussions that should happen first. Communication, trust, and honesty, as in

any relationship, are key.Establishing boundaries is probably the most important step. How far are each of you allowed to go with another person? Kissing? Sex? Casual dates? Vacations together? Is your partner allowed to have sex with someone else in the bed you share together? Should you only get involved with strangers, or are mutual acquaintances acceptable?

Another topic of discussion should be discretion. Do you want to know the dirty details? Maybe that’s a fetish of yours. Or maybe, you prefer not to know any details at all. A trickier topic is; what happens if you develop feelings for another person? Are you both able to handle that possibility? Would youbbe able to share with someone else? How do you feel about your partner willing to share you? These are all things one might say they are initially comfortable with, but in reality, can’t handle them.

When deciding if an open relationship is right for you, you must consider your partner’s feelings at all times, respect the boundaries set, and make sure you make time for one another. Nurturing your relationship together, while spending time with other people, will be what makes your open relationship a successful one.

Obviously, polyamory is not for everyone. If you know someone in an open relationship, though, try not to pass judgment on something that might work really well for them. It doesn’t have to be seen as sleazy or promiscuous; it’s just a different lifestyle that doesn’t affect anyone, but the people involved.
