The Steps soundtrack brings JENNIE into Cinderella’s world with Someone to Hold, an original song previewed in the October 15 trailer. Netflix pairs the ballad with new music from Rose Gray, EMEI and Amanda Seyfried. The film arrives November 20, with its songs introducing different voices into a story centered on the stepsisters.

The Steps soundtrack gives the sisters a musical center

Netflix’s updated film announcement identifies Someone to Hold as a song tied to the sisters’ bond. That is a more specific assignment than adding a pop single to the closing credits. The stated connection places the music inside the emotional argument of the story.

JENNIE writes and performs the song. The new footage offers a preview, while the complete soundtrack remains a separate release to hear in full. A short passage can establish a vocal presence without explaining how the entire ballad develops or where every musical turn falls within the film.

The interesting question is placement. A song associated with a relationship can return a listener’s attention to that relationship even during a large action sequence. Its eventual effectiveness depends on the surrounding scene, which a trailer necessarily selects and rearranges for another purpose.

Cinderella has a song of her own

Amanda Seyfried voices Cinderella and sings Smile and a Song, which Rose Gray co-writes. Gray also contributes Meet Me on the Dance Floor, associated with the palace ball. Those titles occupy different dramatic spaces: an individual character’s expression and a public occasion with its own social expectations.

EMEI adds Understudy. The title brings the idea of a secondary role directly into a film about characters who usually stand outside the center of a familiar tale. That makes it worth hearing in relation to the sisters, rather than treating the soundtrack as a row of unrelated celebrity names.

The October 15 UPI trailer report confirms the new footage and JENNIE’s contribution. The immediate development is the introduction of this musical material. It is not evidence that the full film is already streaming or that its songs have achieved a chart position.

Lilith and Margot move out of the background

Ali Wong voices Lilith, while Stephanie Hsu plays Margot. The premise starts when Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s wand and disrupts the royal ball. Priscilla, voiced by Nikki Glaser, takes the throne, leaving Lilith to work with Cinderella on repairing the consequences.

That arrangement redistributes the familiar story’s attention. A supporting character’s mistake becomes the engine of the adventure. Cinderella remains essential, but her relationship with the stepsister now has to carry more than an opposition between the deserving heroine and an obstacle in her way.

The RUNWAY Film & TV section follows adaptations through those changes in perspective. Here, the musical credits offer another way to track that shift. Several performers contribute to a shared world without requiring one singer to speak for every character’s experience.

The score has a different job from the songs

Kris Bowers supplies the score, recorded at Abbey Road Studios. The score and the original songs belong to the same film, but their functions need not coincide. One can shape movement or connect scenes while another gives a character a more concentrated statement.

That distinction matters when listening to the Steps soundtrack outside the movie. A cue designed around an image can unfold differently from a song built around a voice. The album gives both a home, without making either format a substitute for the way the music works against the animation.

It also leaves room for contrast. Dance-floor energy does not have to erase a quieter relationship song. Their difference can give a scene change more definition, provided the finished film earns that movement rather than relying on a recognizable performer to supply the feeling automatically.

The cast extends beyond the musical announcement

Alyce Tzue and John Ripa direct Steps. Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing produce the film. The voice cast also includes Daniel Radcliffe as the Prince, Young Mazino as Gef and Peter Dinklage as Roderick. Bette Midler voices the Fairy Godmother, with Damian Priest as Cracktor.

These are production credits, not predictions about which supporting role will dominate the movie. A recognizable voice can draw initial attention, but animation depends on the relation between performance and the image. The completed scene remains the place to judge that combination.

For now, the named cast establishes the range around the sisters. The soundtrack adds another set of distinct contributions within that ensemble. Keeping those roles clear makes the announcement more informative than describing the project simply as star-filled.

November 20 is the next complete encounter

Steps premieres on Netflix November 20. The trailer introduces the sound and premise ahead of that date, with the soundtrack available to pre-save through the official announcement. A preview gives listeners a starting point without requiring a verdict on songs they have not yet heard completely.

The Steps soundtrack gives RUNWAY Magazine a concrete question for the release. Does Someone to Hold make the sisters’ relationship more specific within the film? The useful comparison will be the full song against its scene, once the surrounding story is available.
