Summer Swimwear Trends 2010

Spring and summer are such exciting seasons for women who love flaunting their sexy bodies. Warm weather, regardless if you’re on vacation or at a beach or pool near your home, gives you permission to wear bikinis and swimsuits that show off as much or as little skin as you desire, especially when going to the beach.

However, swimsuit season makes many women anxious especially when trying to decide what type of swimsuit to buy or wear. Many gals are preoccupied with learning about and reading the latest fashion magazines to see what the latest trends are in swimwear. They certainly wouldn’t want to become a fashion victim.

To help you avoid undue anxieties this season, following is a summary of this summer’s latest swimsuit trends.

During this year, you should expect to see a lot of graphic prints in all types of swimwear fashions and clothing. The trend follows in the footsteps of all those graphic prints we saw in dresses and gowns in the last several years. This year you’ll see these wild patterns in bikinis, one-piece suits, and even in beach cover-ups.

If you’re an office gal who’s been restricted to wearing business suits or dresses in solid, neutral colors, this is your awesome chance to buy and wear bright colors and designs in everything you wear this year.

Likewise, the trend expands to clothes and swimwear that has lots of cutouts. You’ll see cutouts in many sizes, shapes, and locations. Designers feel that they bring sexiness to a higher level, regardless of the type of clothing. In general, many women believe that cutouts are more for the daring females since so much bare skin is exposed. However, the new and chic cutouts provide solutions for ladies who desire to show off a little skin, but not so much that they’d rush out to buy a Brazilian bikini or a thong

Also popular and trendy this summer are bandeau-type bikini tops. They have evolved from the always-comfortable stretchy tube tops; now they’re trendier and more noticeable with their loud colors and vivid prints. You might be amazed to learn that clothing designers have added underwires to the design so that your bust line gets a positive lift.

Although the majority of men and women would tell you that wearing sexy swimsuits is truly what the summer season is all about, many women still wish they could be chic and fashionable by wearing cover-ups and leaving the scant bikinis to the teens and early twenty-something girls.

A swimsuit or bikini cover-up is functional when you want to take peaceful walks on the beach or relax at a trendy bar in the resort. Wearing a cover-up is appropriate when you have only one bikini or swimsuit and you don’t want to worry about mixing and matching tops and bottoms.

So now you know what the latest trends are for this summer season. Hopefully your anxiety level won’t experience any surges since you’ve discovered the latest styles that women will wear at the beach or to the pool. The secret is to choose a design that gives you the most flattering look. Then you’ll be all set for your beach or resort adventure.

Red Eyeshadow/Eyeliner for Fall 2010

Recently, we spotted Rihanna at the 2009 American Music Awards rocking an edgy and daring red eyeliner look on her bottom lash line (shown above). Many makeup-nistas were out on a hung jury over whether or not this look was hot. Well it seems as if the so Hard singer was onto something because the look also popped up recently at both the Cushine Et Ochs and the Altuzarra Fall 2010 shows at NY Fashion Week.

While I think the look is hot, I also think it’s a look best rocked by one under 25 going to a party or whatever it is you young people do these days. And that’s IF you can find a red eyeshadow that doesn’t irritate your eyes. Much to the dismay of red lovers everywhere, the dye used to make red makeup causes a bad reaction to many. But if you’re so inclined to try the trend anyway, when picking a red that works for you, remember the darker your skin the deeper and brighter you can go. Lighter skin folks should watch out for deep blood reds unless you like the “I poked myself in the eye” look.

Reds to try: Make Up For Ever Eyeshadows in Scarlet 99 (matte red), Matte Cold Red 158, Dark Raspberry 58 (vibrant matte raspberry), Red Copper 61 (maroon shimmer), and Crimson 64 (matte cranberry); Sephora Colorful Mono Eyeshadow in Geisha Kiss 80 (matte brick red); Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Angst (matte cranberry); MAC Eyeshadows in Red Brick Orange Red (Matte) orPassionate Real mid-tone red (Matte).

To do: 1. Keep the rest of your eye makeup simple. Apply a shadow primer like Urban Decay Primer Potion on your lids and then dust an eyeshadow similar to your skin color on the lid then use a color 2-3 shades lighter than that for your brow bone area. 2. Using a pencil brush like MAC #219, apply your red shadow carefully along the outer rim of your lower lash line. If you want to get a bit more edgy, line your upper lash line in red as well and then smudge it with a brush like MAC #239 or with a Q-tip to smoke it out. Clean up any fall out with makeup remover (or plain old baby oil) and a Q-tip. 3. Apply 2-3 coats of mascara and you’re done.

Amsterdam International Fashion Week Spring/Summer

Two times a year, a series of the public fashion shows, mainly by Dutch and Belgium designers takes place in Amsterdam. The Amsterdam International Fashion Week tries to enter into the fashion world with a new, original profile. The shows on the catwalk are accompanied by the whole series of events called Laundry Days, which consists of openings of museum and gallery exhibitions, meetings and parties.

The Amsterdam Fashion Week exists since 2004, but it is during the last years that it obtained a growing reputation, as it is trying to position itself as a platform for the fashion of the new generation and so called New Luxury segment of the market, represented by affluent people who most of all value exclusivity and originality, and often reject established commercial brands. For many of them, the established names are simply compromised and never original by the sheer scale of their production.

During the fashion Week an important, largest in the Netherlands, two days fashion fair takes place in the RAI congress center called Mode Fabriek.

Timing:
at the end of July and the end January each year

Venues:
Amsterdams Historisch Museum, Beurs van Berlage, Foam Photography Amsterdam, Hotel Americain, Hotel Krasnapolsky, RAI, Rijksmuseum, Tuschinski Cinema, Westergasfabriek and more.

Tania Gunadi

What was the set of Disney’s “Aaron Stone” like? The set is mostly super hi-tech stuff. For example, we have Aaron’s Super Sonic Jet, Dark Tamara/Emma’s lab which consists of futuristic weapons, robots and computers, Mr. Hall’s prison cell, and many other cool places.

Where were you filming at? In Toronto, Canada

What is your favorite thing in your closet? My comfy pajamas

Who are your favorite designers? Stella McCartney, Natalie Portman and Massiel Bueno’s OgieKanogie

What is your most memorable experience in show business? Honestly, for me the entire journey in show business is the most wonderful, most memorable experience because every day, every film, every set, every opportunity, puts a smile on my face. When I first got to the US, I knew nothing about acting, art, or even creativity. So now, being in show business has opened my eyes and brought me so much excitement.

What do you do to have fun? Play video games with my friends, try different kinds of vegetarian food, play the drums, bike along the beach, and if I have to I’ll go shopping!

Do you have any pets? Yes, I have two cats who I love very much. They help me with all my auditions- I pretend that they are the other actors hahaha. But I may have a 3rd cat soon. A couple nights ago, I found a kitten outside my front door. He is so small and cute that I figured he must belong to someone so I posted some signs around the neighborhood. If no one ends up claiming him, I think I will just have to keep him!

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Java, Indonesia, in a small suburb about a five-hour drive from the capital city of Jakarta. My parents and lots of my friends are still there and I miss them very much.

What was growing up there like? Growing up in Indonesia was pretty exciting because I have really cool parents who never asked me to do any chores, so I had it made!! Everyday after school I just hung out with all my friends and played until dark. And being that I love food, sometimes we’d go and eat Indonesian food from the myriad of street vendors and then hit the Boba tea places- I love Boba! Then I would force myself to study a little- that is when I wasn’t sleepy!

What are your plans for the future? To continue working in film and TV while also exploring more of the production side of the business. Last year I started my own company and produced a short film called “Unconditionally.” It was a very satisfying experience as an actor, and I’d call it an exhilarating experience as a producer. I’m definitely addicted to the energy of arranging all the elements that make a film come together, like locations, crew members, equipment, casting, and yes- finding good catering!!

What is your favorite movie and why? I like both “Notting Hill” and “The GodFather”. Opposite ends of the spectrum I know, but it’s hard to choose just one. I love “Notting Hill “ because every time I watch it, I just feel good, cause its such a funny and uplifting story with so many wonderful characters and actors. And who doesn’t like “The GodFather” right? And while obviously it’s not a “feel good movie,” I’m drawn to it for the similar reasons of amazing characters and a brilliantly told story. The 1st and 2nd ones are so awesome! I think I’ve watched both movies at least 20 times each.

Who are your influences? Ester Hicks, Kate Winslet, Michael Beckwith, Leonardo DiCaprio, my cats (haha) and my best friend.

Where did you learn to perform? Well, I sort of fell into it by going to an open audition for a Disneyland commercial at the urging of a friend. I didn’t really know what an audition was, but I somehow ended up booking the part! I just had so much fun at both the audition and the shoot that I instantly caught the acting bug. From there I took a few acting classes in LA and just kept searching out opportunities to have fun and perform.

What can you tell Runway that the rest of the world doesn’t know? I’m a little high-maintenance when it comes to ordering my fav Starbucks drink. While I change it up every six months or so, at the moment I like a tall soy, unsweetened, green tea latte with only one scoop of the green tea powder, and no foam. OMG.

Africa Fashion Week 2010

• 30 designers collections shown over 4 days,
• 2 day fashion seminar
• Africa Fashion Awards
• The launch of the African Fashion International Boutique.

Johannesburg will be awash with style, elegance and beauty for four days in June and July when the world’s leading African Fashion designers from across the continent and Diaspora gather to showcase the finest contemporary African design at the second annual Africa Fashion Week.

The exquisite collections of 30 designers will feature in 19 runway shows from 30 June – 3 July, before an influential audience of international buyers, media, World Cup guests, VIPs and celebrities.

The significance of this fashion summit is critical for African Fashion International (AFI) chairperson Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe “Africa Fashion Week (AFW) is potentially the most important platform for the African fashion industry, being perfectly positioned to promote African designers globally.”

It is rare, in fact completely unique, to have all the leading voices in African Fashion in one place, at one time, in one country. Those voices will give expression to Africa’s fashion future at a two day seminar that runs alongside the runway shows; and that will examine ways of strengthening the burgeoning African Fashion industry, debating an African aesthetic and building a global network.

For the designers their collections will not just be confined to the catwalk; they will be available for purchase on site, along with ready to wear garments, at the first ever AFI Fashion boutique which will be open for the month of June. On the eve of African Fashion Week itself, the AFI boutique will launch online as a permanent shop specializing in African fashion from across the globe, with collections available immediately after their catwalk showing. And when the talking and viewing is done, acknowledgement will be given to the leading lights of the industry at the second AFI African Fashion Awards on 5 July 2010. Highlighting industry excellence and outstanding contributions by fashion industry members of African descent world-wide the awards are a platform that will help take African fashion across the continent and to the world.
