Lindsey Morgan Talks Fashion, Style and The Daytime Emmys

Tell us a little about your everyday style. Do you have any go-to’s or staple items for a casual, everyday look?

When I am not in my work out duds, I definitely keep it simple. I wear so many masks and costumes for my work, that when it comes to me just running errands or at home, I keep it clean and comfortable. I love the Cali-chic, tanks and some cute skinnies.

How does your style differ when it comes to the red carpet, do you like to take risks?

My style differs greatly on the carpet! Before I did not work with a stylist so I would really be stressing out about what to wear or “the look” I wanted to represent. I like to be unique and have fun but sometimes time got the best of me and just had to go with what fit and was available. The Daytime Emmys was my favorite carpet ever! I worked with an amazing stylist, Julie Matos, and she hooked it up! I’ll admit I did have a freak out prior because I felt the dress wouldn’t fit in with what everyone else was wearing but Julie reminded me and reassured, why would I ever want to do that?! So with a little push and somebody to hold my hand, I am definitely willing to take risks.

What is your process when you are getting ready to attend a big event? Do you have a look in mind or does it happen organically?

It depends on the event as far as having a preconceived look in mind or allowing something organic to happen. For a big event I’d say I usually have a thematic shape in mind, first. Long, short, sophisticated, young, sexy etc. I went to a Nylon Young Hollywood party recently and definitely wanted to go funky and fresh! Those were my words and what I strived to find! For the Emmy’s it was more chic and exotic. I try to look at what’s in at the moment too, but I found wearing what I like is a lot more fun to me than what is trending at the moment.

The internet had been buzzing about your Daytime Emmy Look, can you tell us how you put it together?

I refuse to take any credit for it besides the fact that I said ‘okay’ and put it on my body! The mastermind behind it was Julie Matos, a stylist, I was so grateful to work with! She let me take the reins first to figure out what I wanted but I wasn’t loving anything I was finding, so she literally pulled this dress for me and had me to try it on. Her first choice! I’ll admit I totally looked past it because it wasn’t much on the hanger, but (another great tip I learned) Julie said, you have to try on everything! Julie wanted me to look very fashion forward and chic, I felt her choice in accessories and some great tailoring to my shape pulled the entire look together.

This was the second year you attended the Daytime Emmy’s and the first time you attended as a nominee; how did it feel? Were you nervous?

The first time I was nervous! I think it was my first carpet ever and it was so intense! I was already not sure if I was dressed appropriately, you know those thoughts, “what if no one else is wearing a tea length dress?!” and then to have all those lights flashing and people calling your name! I was definitely nervous about my fashion choices.

This round, I felt so much more at ease, thanks to Julie and my great hair and make-up team. We had the look down, I still had to do a last minute fitting in the morning of and my mom was my date! I was on cloud 9! And told myself, I’ve done this rodeo, regardless of what happens it is a blessing to be here with people I love and who love me and I am going to treasure this moment forever. Pass the champagne!

Do you have anyone you look up to in the fashion industry? Any fashion icons or designers?

It’s so funny. The designers I love, I feel like I could never wear their work because they are so cool! Like, could I get away with that? My favorites include Tom Ford, because he is so luxurious and sexy. Alexander Wang, just because he is the coolest. Balmain, Jeremy Scott, Guiseppi Zanotti and depending on the season Marc Jacobs, Dolce and Gabana and miu miu.

I really actually admire Rhianna’s style, she is so sexy and daring! But then again I don’t think I could ever pull off what she wears, mainly because I’d be cold, a lot. But I give her mad props.

Any fashion trends you avoid or are really into this season?

I love the halter top neckline, high waisted shorts and crop tops! I’ve decided that is all I am living in this summer. I am definitely not into the chunky wedge sandals though, too Spice Girls for me. I don’t like all the clunk.

Where can we see you next?

I just shot a sci-fi thriller, ETXR, for FOX Digital Networks, it will work the festival circuit and then be streaming for Netflix. I wear some risqué numbers in that one, so if you want to see more of me literally and figuratively, I’d say look there.
